Dogs need to chew – it’s a fact of life, and part of a behaviourally healthy dog’s hedonic budget is to have the appropriate access to chews for that type of dog.
Without recreational chews to keep them busy, dogs will inevitably find something they shouldn’t be gnawing on, like the dining chair, shoes or sunglasses – yikes!
Chewing helps relieve boredom, supports dental health, and satisfies their natural instincts.

These are a great edible chew that is available in different shapes – my dog absolutely loves these as now she is a senior she can still get into it and I’m not worried about them being too hard.
Lily’s Kitchen Woofbrushes
These slightly larger chews contain good tooth cleaning and breath freshening herbs – I’d go for a medium or large dog with these as for toys they might be a bit big – you can cut them in half though!
Whimzees Dental Sticks
Similar to the Alligator and Hedgehog chews these are your average shaped dental stick and are just as enjoyable for my dog than the others.
Benebone
If you are looking for a non-edible chew that is more durable then check out the Benebone, they come in various flavours, shapes and sizes and are a long lasting chew toy that dogs seem to really like.
Rabbit Ears with Fur
For the squeamish among you you might not love this but I find dogs really, really enjoy rabbit ears with fur! It’s a nice natural chew for them and the fur helps with digestion.

I haven’t met a dog yet who doesn’t absolutely love a pizzle – yes they are a bit gross, but the delight on a dog’s face when you give them a pizzle is worth it, and generally they last AGES.
They are always quite pricey so any discount is good IMO!
